Involving Potential Change Leaders
It is critical to involve local leaders in the creation of the future state. This is the first phase of moving an idea into actualization. Large-group processes are particularly useful at this point. Bring the members of the leadership network into the same room and begin the deliberation process early enough in the overall effort to ensure that there is still space to modify, clarify, or even amend the existing future state. A common error is to view this as a deployment or proclamation time, informing people of the changes to occur. On the contrary, the members of the leadership network should be viewed as a creative body whose work is as much to decide the organization’s direction as it is to enable it.
